With Halloween around the corner this weeks #SundayNails had to go vamp. But with my recent Balmain purchase from BeautyMart arriving the vamp look I had planned got a couture-over.

I’ve been so excited about using these shades Sunday couldn’t have come quick enough. It was worth the wait… It is recommended for professional application to place the varnish in a cold place prior to application to prevent streaking and to speed drying. I popped them in the fridge for 5 mins, perfect time for my nail prep.

Which I should explain involves nail varnish removal, I’m still road testing Nails Inc Express Nail Polish remover. It’s pretty amazing! However I go over with Cutex Ultra Cleansing prior to application to ensure a clean surface. I use Diamancel 2 nail file which I find the best out there. On occasion I buff with white blocks – I purchased mine in bulk from eBay.

The Balmain collection is simply divine. The collection comes double boxed which adds to the beauty. Despite costing £40 this equates to £10 a varnish which is really reasonable. All three colours are lust-haves in my opinion. I can’t wait to try the couture red and Parisian nude. The collection comes with matte top coat which I have used with the noir black today.

I was unsure about how they would perform and I was taken back by their smooth application. The have a huge wide brush that makes application almost 1 stroke. Whether the fridge time helped its unclear but I didn’t experience any streaks and 2 coats were plenty for full coverage. The mat top coat is just as easy to apply, with a slightly milky look it dries almost instantly leaving a chic frosted matte finish. I have used several matte top coats in the past, Westminster Bridge by Nails Inc and CHANEL Matte Le Vernis. This wins hands down with ease of application and smoothness of finish.

For the vampy pose I continued the matte look with CHANEL Rouge Allure Velvet in La Fascinante – I LOVE this lipstick!

So this weeks #SundayNails – Sunday 27 October 2013
Base Coat – Nails Inc Kensington Caviar
Colour – Balmain Nail Couture NC Noir
Top Coat – Balmain Mat Top Coat
