The weather seems to be turning. Just another week until we officially move seasons into the autumn fall. As Fashion Week season gets underway I thought it only apt to highlight some firm favourites for fall and my go to shade for London Fashion Week.
1. This season’s fur (albeit faux) is everywhere for AW15, I can think of nothing better than showing off your seasonal manicure with some fur embellished mittens. I can’t wait to get my mitts back into these. I adorned my nails with Essie Cashmere Bathrobe for a chic grey finish.
2. Nude Nails. These days regardless of season the pastel trend does not fade. Nude nails are back with a bite again this season, I will be looking to update this look with some new textures, nail art and slightly new hues. I loved this pop of red with a cute heart to give this nude nail a unique touch. This look was achieved using OPI Don’t pretzel my buttons and OPI Color so hot it burns.
3. Vamp. Although our love affair with all things vampire seems to have cooled, the dark vamp look still has resonance. With Halloween only a month away I loved this matte effect vamp varnish. This almost velvet black was achieved using Balmain Nail Couture in Noir and Matte Top Coat.
4. Greige. My favourite nail shade, yup I have every tone of griege available. It’s gorgeous almost dove grey with the warmth of a wheat or barley beige. Effortlessly chic and elegant. I find this hue the best go to when needing a colour to see you through the week. From CHANEL Particulaire & Frenzy, Nails Inc Jermyn Street & Porchester Square, Emporio Armani Griege, OPI Berlin there done that, Essie Cocktail Bling & Chinchilla, Vinylux… This has to be my ultimate shade recommendation. It’s hard to pick one from the amount of tweaks on this hue, but the one featured here is Emporio Armani 104, Griege.
Fashion Week Fix
So in honour of London Fashion Week, I had to pick a luxury London brand. I turned to Burberry, the ultimate in city chic. The Trench Coat, the Burberry check. simple clean lines that are easily wearable. I decided to opt for a mid grey hue, perfectly suited for the fall season, Steel Grey. It actually has hints of gold through the bottle but when applied you can’t see this effect very clearly. However I think it helps give the shade a better intensity, rather than being a flat colour.
To add a unique runway twist I chose to expose the moons of my nail beds, this was done very simply using sticky nail tips. These can be purchased very cheaply on eBay. Once affixed to your bare nail beds, to cover the moons on your nails, apply your base coat and then move to the colour. Apply two coats as usual, keeping within the lines of the nail tip. After a minute or two, remove the sticky nail tips – do this very carefully as it is very easy to smudge at this stage. You may prefer to get help with this stage or wait until dry!
Once you have removed the tips, coat with Seche Vite Dry Fast across the whole nail. Tidy any edges that may need it with a Q Tip soaked in nail varnish remover. Voila.
This is a fiddly manicure, do not attempt this unless you are committed to a long process. The biggest thing to get correct is the positioning of the nail tips so that the moon is consistent across your nails. If you have a boyfriend or girlfriend, I would recommend getting them to aid with placement.
I have already had 5 compliments on both the shade and the look so I’m really pleased!
